Is swapping driving tests legal?▾
Yes. DVSA allows you to change your test up to 2 times. SwapSlot is a meeting place for learners who want to change with each other — the swap itself happens via a phone call to DVSA on 0300 200 1122. We never touch DVSA systems.
How does the DVSA call actually work?▾
When you and your swap match agree, one of you calls DVSA on 0300 200 1122 (Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm). You give DVSA only the other learner's booking reference number. DVSA puts you on hold and calls the other learner on the phone number recorded on their booking. DVSA does the rest.
What if the swap fails?▾
If the other learner's phone number on their DVSA booking is wrong, or they don't answer, or DVSA decides you're not eligible, the swap is cancelled and you've used one of your 2 changes. We check eligibility before you list and remind you to verify your phone number — but we cannot see DVSA records, so the responsibility is yours.
Will DVSA email me to confirm the swap?▾
No. DVSA does not send a confirmation email after a swap. Note your new test details immediately on the call. Your next DVSA reminder email will show the updated test.
What does it cost?▾
Free during beta. No card details, no upsell. Premium features are planned for after launch — early users help us shape them.
Do I need to share my licence number or phone number with my match?▾
No. The only piece of data you share with your swap partner is your booking reference number. Never share your driving licence number, phone number, address, email or payment card details with another learner — DVSA only asks for those details from you directly, never via someone else.
How long does it take to get matched?▾
It depends on how many other learners want a date like yours. Some matches happen within hours; others take a few weeks if your preferences are very specific. You can edit your listing at any time to widen the pool.
What's a trust score and how does it work?▾
Every SwapSlot account has a trust score (Gold / Silver / Bronze / Caution / Suspended). It goes up when you complete a swap successfully and goes down when you cancel a match without good reason. Higher trust scores attract more matches.
Why can't I use SwapSlot if my test is within 10 working days?▾
DVSA does not allow changes to a test booking inside 10 working days of the test. Working days are Mon–Sat, excluding UK public holidays. SwapSlot enforces this rule before you list — there is no way around it.
What if the other learner's phone number on their booking is wrong?▾
DVSA calls the second learner on the phone number recorded on their booking. If it's wrong or out of date, the swap fails — and the caller wastes one of their 2 allowed changes. You can update your phone number on GOV.UK without using one of your 2 changes. We remind both parties to verify before the call.
Can driving instructors (ADIs) use SwapSlot?▾
Not in the current beta. SwapSlot is built for learner drivers swapping their own test bookings. Instructor / ADI workflows are out of scope for the MVP.
Can I swap a motorcycle or HGV test?▾
No. SwapSlot only supports car driving tests in the current beta. Motorcycle, HGV, PCV, and Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) tests are not supported.
